Teaching Community Enhancement Grants
To support activities that enhance development
of the community of teachers at Illinois State University.

Overview
These grants offer Illinois State University academic departments, campus
units, or campus groups to support events and activities that strengthen
the ISU community of teachers. Funds can be used for such things as printing
promotional materials, travel expenses for a visiting speaker, purchasing
books or other materials, facility rental, or refreshments. Grants are
up to $200.
Grant Program Details
Eligibility
All ISU departments, units, and campus groups that have a focus on teaching
and learning are eligible to apply.
Awards
Grants are up to $200, specifically to be used for expenses or commodities
directly related to the proposed event. Number of grants and amounts
of individual grants are subject to availability of funds.
Examples of possible activities
Below are examples of proposals appropriate for this grant program, although
other types of events and activities could also fit:
- A department invites a colleague from a nearby university who is
proficient in a certain teaching strategy to give a seminar on that
approach and applies for a grant to help pay travel expenses.
- A unit hosts a workshop on teaching issues and applies for a grant
to help pay for printing workshop materials.
- A department hosts a “works in progress” series on research
related to teaching, learning and technology and applies for a grant
to support publicity and refreshments.
- A campus group plans a “best teaching practices” workshop
and applies for a grant to help pay for refreshments.
- A unit schedules a teaching retreat at an off-campus site and applies
for a grant to help pay rental costs.
Application Deadlines
There is no deadline for grant applications. Applications can be submitted
at any time before the event commences and will be evaluated when received.
Funds are available upon grant acceptance.

Evaluation Criteria
CTLT staff will evaluate applications and select recipients based on:
- Whether event or activity is open to, and relevant to, a significant
portion of the department/unit/group and whether a sizeable percentage
of the faculty/teaching assistants/staff is likely to participate.
- The event’s or activity’s potential to enhance the teaching
community.
- Relevance of the proposed expenditures to the event’s goals.
Conditions of the Awards
- Publicity should include a notice indicating “This event has
received support from the Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology.”
- CTLT would appreciate an invitation to the event and to be notified
of the date, time and location, so we can sit in on the event or activity.
Important Dates
- Funds must be spent by June 1 of the appropriate
fiscal year.
- All receipts and other required documentation must be received at
CTLT by June 1. Expenses not appropriately documented by that
date cannot be reimbursed.
