Circle Series
The Circle Series is open to all ISU faculty, staff and graduate students.
If you’re interested in joining our summer reading circle, please attend
the Circle Kick-off Day session(s) on May 20 to receive your materials and
help determine subsequent meeting dates and times. If you would like to participate
in a reading circle, but can not attend the May 20 kick-off session, please
contact Cyndy Ruszkowski. If you’re interested in the Portfolio Circle,
plan to come to as many of the sessions as you can. (See meeting schedule
below.)
Reading Circles
Led by CTLT Coordinator Cyndy Ruszkowski, summer reading circles form around
books related to university teaching and meet bi-weekly, beginning May 20. Books
will be provided. This summer circles will be forming around the following
books:
- Universal Design in Higher Education: From Principles to Practice
This is a must-read guide for faculty who want to be able to teach an increasingly
diverse population of learners.
- Building Partnerships for Service-Learning
Anyone with an interest in service learning, civic engagement, or political
engagement will find this a helpful and thought-provoking reading experience.
Please let us know if there are additional books you would like to spend the
summer reading and discussing with us. We will be happy to form additional
circles!
Portfolio Circle
- Facilitators: John Bantham & Patrick O’Sullivan
- Done right, preparing a teaching portfolio is a reflective process that
documents your development and achievements as a teacher while providing
valuable insights that can pay dividends for years to come. This series
of portfolio workshops is designed for ISU teaching award nominees (and
those who want to become nominees) and so is based on the University Teaching
Committee’s portfolio preparation guidelines. Join us and begin preparing
a successful teaching portfolio.
Meeting Dates: May 13, 1-3pm; May 20, 1-2pm; June 3, 1-2pm; June 17, 1-2pm
at CTLT Instructional Resource Commons.
