Summer Institute for the 21st Century Educator

Summer 2009
Extended Workshops Online Registration

Registration and Stipend Eligibility

All full-time ISU faculty (tenured, tenure-track, non-tenure track) and full-time AP staff with teaching responsibilities receive first priority for registration and are eligible to receive stipends ($100/full-day participation). Part-time instructors and graduate students are not eligible for stipends but may register to participate as space allows.

Stipend Limit Policy

Each participant is eligible for stipends in no more than five Summer Institute workshops. This policy is designed to encourage an incremental, “narrow and deep” approach to development by learning a select set of new skills and then spending time to apply them effectively in instruction. This approach will be more successful in the long run than a “broad and shallow” approach that tends to foster temporary skills that evaporate. In addition, the limits help us keep the workshops small while providing opportunities for a wider set of faculty participants. Faculty who are interested in both “Design Your Course” and “Reinvent Your Course” can only take one of these courses as both of them involve significant time commitment. We can not pay partial stipends for partial participation.

Stipends Payment

Participants attending May and June workshops will receive payment in their June paycheck if all the paperwork is submitted in timely manner. Participants attending July and August workshops will receive payment in their August paycheck if all the paperwork is submitted in timely manner.

Registration Deadlines

Please note registration deadlines for workshops. Registration for May, July and August workshops will close three working days before the start of each workshop to allow time to prepare workshop materials and order food for lunches. Registration for June workshops will close on May 28 (May 27 for Online/Blended Course Design), due to the end of the fiscal year budget constraints.
