New Faculty Community

What is the online New Faculty Community?
The online New Faculty Community (NFC) is an attempt by Illinois State University’s Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology to support new faculty as soon as—or even before—they arrive on campus.
What are the objectives of the New Faculty Community?

The objectives of the online New Faculty Community are to:

  • help new faculty members gain familiarity with Illinois State University;
  • help new faculty members gain familiarity with the Bloomington-Normal community;
  • provide support for new faculty members engaged in the work of designing an developing their courses for the fall;
  • provide a forum through which new faculty members can communicate with each other, with faculty who have just completed their first year at Illinois State University, and with experienced ISU faculty who are members for the New Faculty Orientation Steering Committee.
Who will participate?
We hope YOU will participate!**
Other participants include other new ISU faculty, faculty who have just completed their first year at Illinois State University, and experienced ISU faculty who are members for the New Faculty Orientation Steering Committee.
When can I join?
The New Faculty Community will go “live” on Monday, June 2, 2008. You can join any time after that.
Where is the community located?
The online New Faculty Community is located in a Blackboard “course shell,” and can be accessed via the Illinois State University website by following the directions below (“How do I join?”).
How do I join?

There are two ways to join the New Faculty Community:

OPTION 1

  • Contact your department office to get your UID (University Identification) number.
  • Go to https://secure.ilstu.edu/ulid/ and use your UID to “Activate Your ULID” (University Log-In Identification). This process will include the creation of a password.
  • Go to the Illinois State University portal entry page at www.icampus.ilstu.edu and enter your ULID and password.
  • On your iCampus Home page, you will see (in a box on the right) a list of “My Blackboard Courses.”
  • Click on the Blackboard Course called “New Faculty Community-Summer 08).
  • If you experience any difficulty completing these steps, please call or email the Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology at 309-438-2542 or teachtech@ilstu.edu.

OPTION 2

Email the Center for Teaching, Learning & Technology at teachtech@ilstu.edu using the subject line: NFC Enrollment. We will send you a temporary Blackboard User ID and password. NOTE: This User ID and password will provide access to the New Faculty Community only. You will still need your official ISU ULID and password to access other campus resources.

  • get answers to those “burning questions” about Illinois State University and the Bloomington-Normal community
  • access resources designed to help you prepare to teach in the fall
  • make connections with other new faculty members as well as other members of the Illinois State University community.
